Quick Story: The Hospital

During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director, "What is the criterion that defines a patient to be institutionalized?"

"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub; we offer a teaspoon, a  teacup, and a bucket to the patient and ask the patient to empty the  bathtub."

1. Would you use the spoon?

2. Would you use the teacup?

3. Would you use the bucket?

"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would choose the bucket as it is larger than the spoon or the teacup."

"Noooooo," answered the Director. "A normal person
would pull the plug."

    1. A spoon is the smallest to scoop water out of the tub. This would take the most time. It also requires a lot of work bending over and removing the water by a spoon.
The teacup is the next smallest and the next object that would take the most time and effort.
A bucket is the biggest object to scoop water out of the tub, and would take the least time to remove. But it still requires a lot of work to remove the water.
Tubs (at least here in the US) all have plugs that will drain the water for you with little effort and the usually pretty fast (assuming the drain isn't clogged).
Therefore, the joke makes fun of the "normal" person for not realizing that the plug was an option and the correct one.
